IMG_3270I get asked all the time; “Why do you go to Disneyland so much?”

My usual answer is , “Well, I like Disney and  I like the rides!” Or another answer is, “It makes me happy to  be there…” Then I REALLY thought about this and other things in my life while trying to retire for the evening. And then I came across items on the internet that struck a chord, seeing all the headlines and posts about the latest goings on in the world.

A lot of it is not pretty. Not happy inducing. Even scary. I thought A LOT about WHY a place like Disneyland brings me happy…

Here are my personal reasons on why “The Happiest Place On Earth” is my choice and why it means so much to MY life…

Just for 1 day: There are no politics, religion, hate, threats, war, discrimination, privilege, elitism, racism, sexism, ageism, criticism, bullying, homophobia, misogyny, passive-aggressiveness, dictatorship, protests, divisiveness, slanted headlines, narcissistic attention garnering posts, or hashtags.

There is no Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, Kardashians, Colin Kaepernick, Vladimir Putin, or Kim Jong Un. There is no Fox, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, or Cable News.

No Left… No Right.

Just for 1 day: There is no one there that tries to make me feel less than, stupid, old or tells me to be normal. There is no one there always trying to prove they are better than everyone else or out for their own best interests.

There is no one there that tries to make me feel guilty. There are no workplace politics, or people who hint around or even tell me to my face that I am unqualified to teach Students with disabilities, Yoga, Fitness, Nutrition or perform Healing Work. There is no one there that reduces my salary, demotes me, lies to me, manipulates my work,  or makes me feel invisible. All to just feel better about themselves.

Just for 1 day: There is no wondering if you did something wrong or feelings of insecurity. There is no wondering how you are going to pay your bills, if you are going to land that new gig offering your services, if that new client will come back or how many people will attend your classes.

Just for 1 day: There are memories. But there is no mourning or grief. That takes a back seat for the day and your heart has a chance to heal.

At places like this,  it is non-stop happiness, the manifestation of Magic, and heart fulfilling characters and attractions that go out their way to bring you a little joy. They take away the heartache, fear, and disappointment that we can grapple with. At least for a little while…

This is why I believe in the Magic Kingdom. This is why I continue to heal, to help… To find balance…

So maybe this article isn’t really about Disneyland. But about recognizing that we are in control about how much ‘happy’ we bring into our lives, the notion of always needing to be right and the integrity and humbleness behind it all. Lastly, how much we allow the outside world to influence us. Everyone will have their own version. This place just happens to be ONE of mine.

What is your “Disneyland”?
