There’s No CNN At Disneyland??

IMG_3270I get asked all the time; “Why do you go to Disneyland so much?”

My usual answer is , “Well, I like Disney and  I like the rides!” Or another answer is, “It makes me happy to  be there…” Then I REALLY thought about this and other things in my life while trying to retire for the evening. And then I came across items on the internet that struck a chord, seeing all the headlines and posts about the latest goings on in the world.

A lot of it is not pretty. Not happy inducing. Even scary. I thought A LOT about WHY a place like Disneyland brings me happy…

Here are my personal reasons on why “The Happiest Place On Earth” is my choice and why it means so much to MY life…

Just for 1 day: There are no politics, religion, hate, threats, war, discrimination, privilege, elitism, racism, sexism, ageism, criticism, bullying, homophobia, misogyny, passive-aggressiveness, dictatorship, protests, divisiveness, slanted headlines, narcissistic attention garnering posts, or hashtags.

There is no Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, Kardashians, Colin Kaepernick, Vladimir Putin, or Kim Jong Un. There is no Fox, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, or Cable News.

No Left… No Right.

As a personal growth and development writer, I cannot for the life of me figure out why it feels uncomfortable to get these thoughts on to paper. Or cyberspace if you will. 🙂 It’s been awhile since I published my last essay.
But something has pushed me today to do so. So I am going to just go with it.
A thought came to me this morning as I was lying in bed contemplating my last days of Summer break from my day job. I’ll admit there is a certain level of dread that looms over me about it. There is a certain level of misfit-ism and alienation that has a hold of me since I decided awhile back to dive into a completely whole new world of healing work and purpose. There is a great level of sadness that comes over me when I think that change many times means… loss…
Have you ever felt that you just don’t belong? That all the things that you did, people you knew and were close with, the behaviors and words you spoke just don’t resonate with you anymore?
I’ve been there… I’m there.

Quick Guide: 10 Benefits of Deep Breathing

Drew’s Quick Guide to 10 Best BENEFITS to Deep Breathing..

(Quite honestly, I sometimes forgot to use my breathing techniques in the last month, and I was/am in full blown STRESS CRISIS… *ugh*)

So take 3 mins: Close your eyes. Inhale up/in through your nose, SLOW, let your belly, then your chest rise. Hold—Then out through your mouth, SLOWLY. Let your belly and chest lower. Repeat over the 3 min or more.

1. Deep breathing calms the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system is activated in times of stress and anxiety. Deep breathing will slow your heart rate down and in a matter of seconds your breath will communicate to your brain there is no danger which relaxes your muscles.

2. Breathing lifts mood. Breathing raises levels of endorphins and lowers stress hormones.

3. Breathing brings clarity and mindfulness.

4. Breathing boosts energy and stamina. The more oxygen in the body, the more level of energy you will have.

5. Breathing increases oxygen in your blood.

6. Breathing strengthens the immune system.

7. Breathing can release toxins in your body by 70%. When you exhale, you are releasing carbon dioxide waste which has passed through your bloodstream into your lungs.

8. Promotes better sleep.

9. Reduction in blood pressure.

10. Breathing normalizes the heart rate and rhythm.
